Sniffari

We´re going on an adventure! Where your dog can be a dog, explore, sniff, dig and allow them to lead the way.

Why treating your dog to a sniffari is important

A walk where they get to explore and sniff freely is crucial for their well being. Heres why:

Dogs need outlets, Outlets refer to activities that your dog finds fulfilling, not activities that you want to do with your dog. You may think that training for toys and food are enough of an outlet, but unless your dog is more food or toy motivated than anything else, those are just rewards for marked desired behaviours. Dogs need ways of exploring the world the way they would before they were domesticated, and a sniffari does just that!

Dogs experience the world primarily through their nose, so allowing them to sniff activates their brain, reduced boredom and provides enrichment similar to problem solving activities. This is so important for their mental health.

Sniffing also lowers cortisol (the stress hormone) and can help anxious or reactive dogs feel a lot more relaxed. It´s like meditation for dogs!

Going on a Sniffari encourages their natural behaviours. Dogs have an instinctual need to sniff and investigate, so this would satisfy those instincts which are totally natural.

It also tires them out, massively! Mental exercise can be just as tiring as physical exercise, so a slow sniff- filled walk can exhaust your dog more than a fast paced jog! Thats amazing when you think about it!

Their confidence is boosted too! For shy, fearful or anxious dogs, sniffing helps them engage with the environment in a safe and non threatening way, boosting their confidence over time.

A scent walk where you allow a dog to be a dog and using their natural behaviours can help strengthen your bond. Allowing them to lead the way shows trust and allows them to enjoy their walk more, making outsings a positive experience for the walker and your dog.
