Pancho was thankfully rescued from a rather grim life which he has eventually put behind him forever. He is a large Mastin, so will need somebody who understands his strength, and his breed. The Spanish Mastin embodies the perfect blend of loyalty, intelligence and a gentle demeanor.
Adopting a dog is often a better choice than buying one for so many reasons, benefiting both you and the dog. Heres why:
Shelters, especially here in Spain are overcrowded and many dogs sadly face euthanasia if they are not adopted. Many of the dogs that end up in shelters have been rescued from awful conditions, and so giving one of these rescue dogs a home provides them with a second chance at life, which they so deserve. Sadly there are many dogs that have been in shelters for more than 10 years waiting for someone to come and offer them a loving home.
Adopting discourages unethical breeding practices, such as puppy mills. You can help control the number of stray and abandoned dogs here in Spain.
Rescue dogs often form deep bonds with their adopters showing gratitude and affection. Many adoptable dogs are already house trained and socialised, however if you are willing to put the time, patience and effort in you can be a part of giving one of the dogs who are a lost cause, through no fault of their own, a loving home. Breeding prioritises profit over animal welfare, often leading to sick or mistreated dogs, and many of these are the ones that end up in shelters. Adopting supports ethical treatment of animals.
There is a wide variety of dogs to choose from. Shelters have dogs of all ages, breeds and temperaments, so you can find the perfect match for you and your family. If you prefer a specific breed, breed specific rescues are available.
By adopting an animal it encourages responsible pet ownership and you will be helping spread awareness about adoption. It also frees up shelter space for other animals in need.
Please consider adoption. You cannot change a dogs past, but you can rewrite its future. <3
